Gurostølen

Gurostølen is located at 900 meters above sea level, and there has been mostly continuous farming here since the 1300s!

Gurostølen is owned and operated by Rueslåtten, which also runs Rueslåtten Ysteri. Half of Rueslåtte's livestock, between 15-20 cows, move to Gurostølen in the summer. The unique and nutritious farm milk is made into farm cheese, a Swiss-inspired gruyère type. At Gurostølen there is a lot of activity in the summer, and you have the opportunity to take part in a day at the farm. Keep an eye on the event calendar for more information and dates.

Stølsost is a lean cheese made from farm milk, so it is only produced in the summer. The cheese is aged and matured in mountain tunnels for a whole year before it is ready for sale. Part of the fat in the milk is removed, as this is needed to produce sour cream. Traditionally, Stølsost is a pure skimmed milk cheese, but the Stølsosten from Gurostølen has more fat, so the good flavors come out even better.
