Crossing Hardangervidda, whether lengthwise or crosswise, has become very popular in recent years, with many choosing to travel from cabin to cabin. With several dozen cabins, both staffed and unstaffed, the mountains have become more accessible and comfortable. You can also enjoy a meal or a break at nearby dining cabins.

Hakksetstølen Fjellstugu og Hytter

Hakkesetstølen Fjellstugu og Hytter, located at 1050 meters above sea level, is a cozy mountain lodge with all necessary amenities, just ten minutes from Geilo center. Situated in the heart of the mountains, Hakkesetstølen provides an excellent base for day trips and is ideal for those wishing to hike from cabin to cabin across Hardangervidda. Here, you can enjoy delicious traditional dishes and homemade baked goods. With just 1.5 km from the parking lot at Kikut, it’s a perfect distance for families looking for a short outing.

Tuva Turisthytte

OPEN SUMMER & AUTUMN WITH ACCOMMODATION

Tuva Turisthytte,  located at 1200 meters above sea level and built in 1915, is one of the oldest privately-owned tourist cabins on Hardangervidda. In 1998, it was named "Cabin of the Year" by the leaders of DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association). It is operated by the 4th generation hosts, Mailiza and Sigbjørn, and offers both delicious food and accommodation. Tuva is renowned for its waffles, made from a secret recipe passed down through three generations.

From Tuva Turisthytte, there are many great hiking opportunities, and it serves as a perfect stop for those trekking between cabins. You can reach Tuva by car (toll road) via Skurdalen in summer or by foot from Ustaoset Station, about 10 km away.

Prestholtseter Stølskafé

Prestholtseter is located at the foot of Hallingskarvet, at 1242 meters above sea level, which also serves as the gateway to Hallingskarvet National Park. Here, you will find the popular Prestholttrappene, which lead to a stunning viewpoint at 1705 meters above sea level. In summer, you can easily reach Prestholtseter by car (toll road).

Geilojordet

OPEN SUMMER

Geilojordet is a gem in the heart of Geilo, ideal for recreation, experiences, and activities all year round, with a short distance from the parking lot. In summer, you can enjoy traditional sour cream porridge while watching a storytelling theater. The barn hosts exciting exhibitions, and all the buildings are open for visits. Children can play in the play area and meet baby goat and chickens. Geilojordet is a perfect place to start or end your visit in Geilo. If the café is closed, you can visit the cozy café at Geilo Kulturkyrkje, which is open year-round.

Café Presttun Ustaoset

Café Presttun is beautifully located in the cabin village of Ustaoset by RV7. It is easily accessible both by car and on foot. The classic Norwegian cabin has been transformed into a cozy café where the traditional cabin style is preserved while incorporating modern and creative elements. Here, you can enjoy a fire on the grill, pleasant music, and the aroma of baked goods!

Torsetlia Fjellstue

Torsetlia is situated at 1040 meters above sea level on the sunny side of Dagalifjellet, with a fantastic view of Hardangervidda. Located 30 km from Geilo center, Torsetlia is positioned in the heart of the hiking and fishing paradise of Hardangervidda. Here, you can enjoy accommodation, dinner, lunch, and a café.

Halne Fjellstugu

Halne is located in the middle of Hardangervidda along RV7 and offers accommodation, experiences, and delicious homemade food. Halne Fjellstugu has 75 beds and provides transport from Haugastøl and Ustaoset train stations. Situated right at the entrance to Hardangervidda National Park, Halne is a popular destination for hikers.

Hotel Finse 1222

Finse 1222 is a hotel located at the highest point of the Bergen Line, 1222 meters above sea level, with an impressive view of Hardangerjøkulen, Norway's 6th largest glacier. The hotel is only accessible by train or bicycle. With 45 rooms and an excellent restaurant serving dishes based on local ingredients and Nordic cuisine, Hotel Finse 1222 offers a unique experience. Finse is also the starting point of Rallarvegen, one of Norway's most beautiful bike rides.

Fagerdalen

OPEN SUMMER

Fagerdalen Støl is a traditional summer mountain farm located between Bergsjø and Hovet, and has been in the family for over 300 years. Today, it is run by Anne-Lise, who is at the mountain farm every summer. The mountain farm is easily accessible by car in the summer, and the café is open daily from around July 1st to mid-August. Here, you can visit the grazing animals and enjoy genuine farm food made from the milk of their own cows, including local dishes such as sour cream porridge and cheese. Fagerdalen is part of the Ostebygda, and in the center of Hol, you'll find Hol Ysteri, a local food store where you can purchase farm products.
