The dining and accommodation cabins in the mountains provide perfect starting points for exploring the nature around Geilo. Crossing Hardangervidda, whether lengthwise or across, has become very popular in recent years, and many choose to hike from cabin to cabin.

With several dozen cabins, both staffed and unstaffed, the mountains have become more accessible and comfortable. You can also enjoy a meal or a break at nearby dining cabins.

Hakksetstølen Fjellstugu og Hytter

Hakkesetstølen Fjellstugu og Hytter are located at 1050 meters above sea level and offer a cozy mountain lodge with all the necessary amenities in the heart of the mountains. It is only a five-minute drive to the ski slopes and ten minutes to Geilo center. From Hakkesetstølen, groomed ski trails extend in all directions, making it an excellent base for day trips or as a starting/ending point for cabin-to-cabin trips on Hardangervidda. Here, you can enjoy delicious traditional food and homemade baked goods. With just 1.5 km from the parking lot at Kikut, it is also a perfect cross-country skiing trip for families looking for a shorter outing.

Tuva Turisthytte

Tuva Turisthytte, located at 1200 meters above sea level and built in 1915, is one of the oldest privately owned tourist cabins on Hardangervidda. In 1998, it was named "Cabin of the Year" by the leaders of DNT. It is run by the 4th-generation hosts, Mailiza and Sigbjørn, and offers both delicious food and accommodation. Tuva is known for its waffles, made from a secret recipe passed down through three generations.

Tuva is only accessible by skis in winter and is approximately 7.3 km from Ustaoset and 16 km from Kikut, one way.

Prestholtseter Stølskafé

Prestholtseter is located at the foot of Hallingskarvet, at 1242 meters above sea level, which is also the gateway to Hallingskarvet National Park. Prestholtseter is only accessible by skis by following marked cross-country ski trails from, among other places, Ustaoset and Havsdalen. The cabin is approximately 7.6 km from Havsdalen and 7.8 km from Ustaoset, one way. The café offers flavorful traditional food and homemade baked goods.

Café Presttun Ustaoset

Café Presttun is a true gem in the mountains, beautifully situated in the heart of the cabin village at Ustaoset by RV7. The café is easily accessible by both car and skis. The classic Norwegian cabin has been transformed into a cozy café where the traditional cabin style is preserved while incorporating modern and creative elements. Enjoy the atmosphere with a fire in the fireplace, pleasant music, and the aroma of freshly baked goods!

Grønebakken

The kiosk at Grønebakken, operated by the Red Cross, offers hot drinks and freshly baked waffles. Grønebakken is located along the ski trail between Geilo and Ustetind, strategically positioned midway between Tuva and Kikut. It is approximately 7.7 km from the parking lot at Kikut to Grønebakken on cross-country skis, one way.

Torsetlia Fjellstue

Torsetlia is situated at 1040 meters above sea level on the sunny side of Dagalifjellet, offering a fantastic view of Hardangervidda. Located 30 km from Geilo center, Torsetlia is positioned in the heart of the cross-country skiing paradise of Hardangervidda. Here, you can enjoy accommodation, dinner, lunch, and a café.

Halne Fjellstugu

Halne is centrally located on Hardangervidda along RV7 and offers accommodation, exciting experiences, and delicious homemade food. Halne Fjellstugu has 75 beds and provides transport from Haugastøl and Ustaoset train stations. Situated right at the entrance to Hardangervidda National Park, Halne is a popular destination for skiers.

Hotel Finse 1222

Finse 1222 is a hotel located at the highest point of the Bergen Line, 1222 meters above sea level, with spectacular views of Hardangerjøkulen, Norway's 6th largest glacier. The hotel is only accessible by train or skis. With 45 rooms and an excellent restaurant serving food based on local ingredients and Nordic cuisine, Hotel Finse 1222 offers a unique mountain experience. Finse is also the starting point for the well-known cross-country ski race Skarverennet.

Fagerdalen

Fagerdalen Støl is a summer mountain farm that is also open every Easter. Located between Bergsjø and Hovet, it is about 8.5 km from Bergsjø on cross-country skis, one way. Anne-Lise serves genuine farm food made from milk from their own cows, including local dishes such as sour cream porridge, cheese, and other products. Fagerdalen is part of Ostebygda, and in the center of Hol, you'll find Hol Ysteri, a local food store where you can purchase farm products.
