Fat Viking 2025
Fat Viking is a winter endurance bike race on fatbikes, starts on Saurday 25th of January at kl. 07:00 from Vestlia Resort in Geilo.
The race distances are 150 km, 100 km, and 50 km. All distances start at the same time, Saturday at 07:00.
The course follows snowmobile trails, dog sled trails, snow-covered roads, and cross-country ski tracks around Geilo, often toward Skurdalen and Dagali. Everything depends on snow levels and trail quality.
The checkpoints are in heated buildings where basic food (oatmeal) is provided along with an opportunity for rest. Several "bailout options" are available along the route in case of emergencies or if participants need to withdraw from the race.
Fat Viking is a non-commercial event organized by Geilo IL on behalf of the "Fat Viking Society." It is held without payment—out of love for the sport.
Fat Viking 150 is an official qualifying race for the Iditarod Trail Invitational. Those who complete the entire distance in less than 36 hours qualify for the 130-mile Iditarod Trail Invitational in Alaska.
Before the race, it is possible to join the Fat Viking Camp from Monday to Wednesday. This is a training camp where you’ll learn everything you want to know about winter cycling and winter camping.
For more information on both events, visit the Geilo Aktiv website or the dedicated Fat Viking Facebook group.
