Dokken in Sudndalen

Hol Municipality took over Dokken in Sudndalen in 1959. Here the old houses (7 pcs. + rebuilt smithy) stand in the same place where they were built in the years 1795–1798.

Dokken Fjellgard is idyllically located in Sudndalen in Hol municipality, and the history of the farm stretches back several hundred years. Originally, the farm belonged to Søre Skøro. The dock was separated as a separate use in 1770, and in 1795 it was sold to Ola Ellingson from northern Villand in Hovet. When Ola bought Dokken, the houses were down by the road, but he moved the farm to its current location and built the houses that are still there today. Ola Ellingson was a capable man, and he was highly respected in the village. It was perhaps not without reason that he was called "The King of Sudndal".

In 1959, Hol municipality bought Dokken from the then owner Johannes Myhren and restored all the houses. Today, you can still see the original houses from the late 1700s, as well as a sauna from Skøro and a new smithy from 1985.

Dokken Mountain Farm is run by Hallingdal Museum. Feel free to contact the museum if you want a tour. The museum is also open to collaboration with volunteers, teams and other cultural actors; contact us for opportunities for collaboration or wishes for events at Dokken Fjellgard.
